Ashdod, Israel & Port Said November 8
We are now anchored at Port Said having travelled the short distance from Ashdod this afternoon. We will start the transit and join the convoy of ships at 3.30 AM and will exit the Suez Canal at 1.30 PM tomorrow. There are several cruise ships out there, all lit up and waiting like us. You will all know that Port Said is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez and dividing Africa and Asia. The canal is just over 120 miles long and is a popular trade route between Europe and Asia. I think I wrote all this last time we came through so won’t bore you again with all the details . It’s very interesting for first time passengers through and I do remember going up on deck to watch previously but after a hectic week in the places we’ve been it’s all I can do to keep my eyes open after a lovely dinner and a terrible magician at the show afterwards! No culture today, just a day of doing nothing except eat and drink!
