Kos, Greece, November 3
“Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.”
Today we’re in Kos, Greece. Woke to a beautiful sight as we were arriving at this island. I’ll quote from our daily newsletter about Kos now
“On the edge of the Dodecanese, Kos is a feast of emotion. With endlessly long beaches, fantastic food, and an ancient healing centre, it is like no other island in the Aegean. A famous motivator described Kos as chicken soup for the soul as well as the body and eye. Tall palm trees, endless sandy beaches, alternating landscapes and numerous archeological sites and attractions left by ancient Greeks, Romans, medieval knights, Venetians and Ottomans make Kos special and it’s not coincidental that Hippocrates, antiquity’s most noted physician, was born in Kos”.
I cancelled my tour today, couldn’t take another trip to see ruins and needed a break! After breakfast I took the tender to the town, was still a bit sleepy in there as was only 10am and people only beginning to set up their tables and chairs and gift shops. The town was lovely, narrow streets with cute shops. I stopped for a coffee then strolled around for a couple of hours. As I was leaving to return to the ship the place was abuzz with people eating outdoors and taking in the beautiful 26 degrees. Was nice not to have the hoards of people we’ve been experiencing in other ports but then it is almost the end of the tourist season. Met up with three friends for lunch by the pool.
George did the excursion, arrived back at the boat just now and said. ‘You were right again smarty pants’!!! I think we’re both in need of a couple of days off ruins - there’s a fair bit of antiquity on the boat so maybe a seat in the lounge might be the go!!!
Tonight is a formal night, also the Captain’s cocktail party which usually means a glass of champagne and some canapés in the theatre. Then we’re booked the Pacific Rim restaurant for dinner. Home now from dinner and the show. Overfed and tired!!!!
