Semarang, (Java), Indonesia December 14

Today we are in Semarang, Java.  I wish I could tell you all about it but I actually didn’t do a tour as had already decided it was going to be too hot and humid.  I did, however, intend taking the shuttle into the city for a couple of hours and at around 10.30 left the ship, did my customs bit, went out to the bus area to be told there were no shuttles!  But I could take a cab! The shuttles were meant to leave every two hours. Big stuff up - not sure who’s fault it was but they then managed to sort something out but too late for me! How anyone could live here in the humidity is a mystery.

So I filled in my day with a book, lunch, some FaceTime, and the odd nod!!!!

A little bit about Java though - Semarang is the heart of Central Java with its multicultural history and is one of the largest metropolitan cities in Indonesia.  Semarang, like Venice, has many rivers in the middle of the city and is sometimes referred to as the Venice of Java.  The strategic position of Semarang has made the city a melting pot of Chinese, Indian, Arab and European cultures.

Dinner was enjoyable with a couple from near Toronto.  Such a lot of Canadians have been on this cruise.
